Christopher U. Carmen
President and Founder

Chris began his commercial real estate career in 1985 with Duke Realty Corporation, one of the nation’s most prominent commercial real estate development companies.  While at Duke, Chris’ responsibilities included office and industrial property leasing, ultimately serving as Vice President of Duke Realty Corporation’s Indiana Office Group.

In 1993, Chris founded CARMEN Commercial Real Estate Services.  His vision was to create a firm that specialized in representing the interests of tenants, free from the conflicts of interest inherent in traditional, “full service” real estate brokerages.  Since then, CARMEN has represented more than 400 businesses in transactions located in Indiana and throughout the U.S.  While developing CARMEN’S “client centric” business model, the firm expanded its in-house services and developed strategic relationships with some of the industry’s best providers of design, office relocation project management, and state & local government incentive procurement.

Today, CARMEN Commercial Real Estate Services continues as one of Indiana’s most prolific and respected tenant representation firms.

Chris has authored two books on the subjects of facility relocation and commercial lease negotiation: The Office Relocation Planner and How to Search and Negotiate Office Leases, marketed through a publishing company he co-founded and then sold in 2001.

Chris was a founding board member and served on the Board of Directors of TechPoint, Indiana’s statewide technology trade group and advocacy organization from 1999 to 2008.  Chris also serves on a number of not-for-profit boards, including the TechPoint Foundation, an organization with the mission of helping Indiana school-aged children gain 21st Century skills.

Chris is a native of Chicago and attended the University of Illinois and Elmhurst College, where he graduated with degrees in Finance and Business Administration.
